CPL Ticket sales money stolen from office

Port-Of-Spain (Trinidad), Jul 22 (IANS/CMC):  Close to $200,000 from ticket sales of upcoming matches in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have been stolen, Police in Trinidad and Tobago have said.

The money, for three CPL matches scheduled for this week starting Thursday, was stolen from the ticketing office of the Queens Park Oval in Port-Of-Spain, between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, investigating officers have reported.

The Police also confirmed that an official report was made by Queen's Park's ticketing co-coordinator Karen Bynoe.

Media reports here quote investigating officers as saying Bynoe placed the money in an envelope and secured it in a drawer at around 5 p.m. Saturday, but could not be the sum Awhen she went to office Sunday.

An envelope with a number of cheques also in the drawer was untouched, said police.

Police believe the robbery was an inside job since the door to the general office was not tampered with, but the one leading to the office where the money was kept was broken into.

A number of people have been questioned, but no arrest has been made.

"CPL can confirm that there is an investigation currently underway regarding an issue with tickets," said CPLT20 media officer for Trinidad and Tobago, Abigail Edwards.

"However, it cannot comment further until such a time as the relevant authorities have completed their enquiries."

CPL features Red Steel against Guyana Amazon Warriors Thursday, Jamaica Tallawahs Saturday and St Lucia Zouks Sunday.
