Mid-Day

Mumbai, Apr 7: Govinda has blamed two Congressmen for trying to ruin his political career. Without naming them, he said the pair were doing everything possible to ruin his relationship with party bosses.

He said, “The two have spread rumours about me having contacts with the underworld and anti-social elements. They want me to back out of politics and are trying to harass me in every possible way.” The actor added that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sonia Gandhi.

He added that his enemies became even more jealous after his film career took off again this year.

Until Wednesday, Govinda had said the threat calls were aimed at tarnishing his image as an actor.

Earlier Govinda told MiD DAY, “The rumour that I have been getting calls from the underworld was spread by Congress members in Borivli.”

Family threatened

He said that he was frightened after the callers threatened his family. “I didn’t expect the people responsible to stoop so low,” he said.

BJP leader Ram Naik reacted sharply to Govinda’s claims. “It is irresponsible to make such wild allegations. Sonia Gandhi should take Govinda for a mental check-up.”

Think positive

Says producer Ashok Pandit, “No one has time to ruin anyone’s career. If Govinda is doing good work, why should anyone be after him? He is a nice person and a good actor. He must think positively.

‘UAE girl just a fan"

Govinda said on Wednesday that a UAE woman whom he had lodged a police complaint against three months ago, has nothing to do with the recent threat calls to him.

“The woman has nothing to do with the threat calls presently troubling me. She was only a fan of mine. The caller who has been threatening me is a man, not a woman,” he said.

The actor added that he had only informed the Juhu police as the calls were from a UAE number.
