'Gurgaon emerging as major centre of golf'


Gurgaon, Nov 6 (IANS): Gurgaon is emerging as a major golf centre in north India. It attracted about 30,000 golf tourists last year and the numbers are increasing 10 percent annually, said Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Hooda was addressing a function of 'Take Solutions India Golf Awards' organised here Tuesday evening. The India Golf Awards, powered and created by golfing journalist Shaili Chopra, recognised over 30 special winners.

Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia was also present.

Jesse Grewal of Chandigarh and Nonita Lal won the Best Teaching Pro Awards while Hooda also honoured Hero MotoCorp MD Pawan Munjal for outstanding corporate contribution to golf.

Ahluwalia honoured Puneet Chaddha of HSBC, Aditya Khaitan of McLeod Russel, and Vijay Chauhan of Parle. Papa CJ was given Best Comedy Golfer Award while Rashid Khan and Vani Kapoor received Best Upcoming Golfer Awards.
