Bantwal, Mar 2: Vittal police on Wednesday March 1 busted a counterfeit currency note racket at Vittal.

The police team headed by PSI Balachandre Gowda, acting on a tip off intercepted a motor cycle at Ukkuda check post under Vittal police station limits at about 5. 30 pm.

On questioning the driver Abdul Latif (47 yrs) of Idkidu village, he confessed that he possessed about Rs one lac worth counterfeit currency notes all in denominations of 500.

The police team seized the material immediately and on confirmation took the accused into custody. A case has been registered investigation is under progress. The exact source of the counterfeit currency and details regarding any of this currency already put into circulation are yet to be probed into and a special team headed by CPI Bantwal has been formed to conduct the investigation.

The currency notes recovered are of "5CC" series ranging between 935959 and 938590.
