Karkala, Mar 1: A mother of four girl children set herself ablaze in her house at Gundyadka near here on Monday February 27 evening.  Though she was admitted to the hospital immediately she succumbed to the burn injuries on Tuesday February 28 morning.

Usha Acharya (38), wife of Umesh Acharya was distressed over the fact that all her children were girls.  Now she was pregnant for the fifth time.  It is said that she was very much worried that she would deliver a baby girl this time too.  This pushed her to take this extreme decision.

Along with this the family was facing financial problems too.  Umesh Acharya who is a bus conductor by profession has lost his job some days ago.  Since there was no other income to the family, the couple was under a lot of stress.

All these reasons are said to have made Usha to commit suicide.  On Monday evening, she set herself ablaze when her husband and children were out of the house.  After hearing her screaming for help, Umesh immediately admitted her to a private hospital in Mangalore.  But she died on Tuesday morning.

The Karkala police have registered a case in this regard.
