Mid-Day

Mumbai, Feb 28: Sanil Shah (16) wanted to prevent his girlfriend from flying to Milan on a UN trip Sunday night. So, he called Sahar airport and said there was a bomb on board the Alitalia flight.

The results were immediate. The flight was grounded and his girlfriend and 12 others were offloaded, when the Sahar police discovered it was a prank.

The Alitalia flight, which was scheduled to take off from Mumbai at 2 am early this morning, was delayed by six hours, as it had to be checked by the bomb disposal squad.

Shah, a resident of Napeansea Road, wanted to join his friends on the trip, but his parents refused permission. The Sahar police station traced the call to Shah’s residence.
