Delhi Police arrest Mumbai man in spot fixing case

New Delhi, Jun 13 (IANS): A 35-year-old man, who worked as a conduit between fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and people who placed bets on IPL, was arrested by Delhi Police in Mumbai, an official said here Wednesday.

Firoz was arrested in Mumbai Monday and presented before a Delhi court Wednesday, said a police official.

"The court sent Firoz to five days in police custody," he said.

Firoz is the 28th accused to be arrested in the spot fixing scandal that was exposed by Delhi Police last month.

He had been managing money and betting-related issues between Dawood Ibarhim and other bookies for several years.

"After the death of Jahid, another conduit, Firoz came in contact with 'D company'. He was deputed to take care of the betting syndicate," said the officer.

"He informed bookies about the betting rates decided by Dawood. His role came to light after the arrest of Ramesh Vyas, who is in the custody of Delhi Police," the officer added.

During his interrogation, Vyas said that Firoz passed Dawood's messages to him and other bookies.

A total of 21 arrested accused -- including Rajasthan Royals players S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila -- have got bail, while bookie Tinku Mandy is now in Mumbai police's custody.

Delhi Police have slapped the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act MCOCA) against 26 people, including the Rajasthan Royals players.

Altogether, 61 people have been arrested across the country in connection with the IPL spot fixing scandal.

Nothing will happen? The real fixers acting like saints and pleading innocence despite having concrete proof. Take example of Sreesanth how happy now upon release from the Jail and confidently waiting for the ion to South Africa tour. Our judiciary is most impotent in the hands of powerful politicians and investigation is waste of time and energy. Please stop this drama once and for all

And police conveniently ignored him until Ramesh Vyas openly named him...!!!??? These corrupt police might not have arrested many main culprits..!!???
