Levski Sofia Fined 30,000 Euros for Racism

Sofia (Bulgaria), Sep 22 (IANS): Bulgarian club Levski Sofia have been fined 30,000 euros ($39,000) by the UEFA for their fans' racist abuse against Serbian club FK Sarajevo at a Europa League qualifying match in July.

"UEFA's disciplinary committee has slapped Levski with a fine of 30,000 euros for racism and rule violations," the Bulgarian club said in a statement Friday, reports Xinhua.

During a first-leg Europa League tie against FK Sarajevo in Sofia July 19, Bulgarian fans held up banners with references to people like former Bosnian Serb army chief Ratko Mladic, who has been charged with genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity for his role in Bosnia's bloody 1992-95 conflict.

Levski won the game 1-0, but lost 2-3 on aggregate.
