Mangaluru, Oct 21: Coastal districts, primarily Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, along with parts of Malnad and South Interior Karnataka, are set to experience widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over the next few days as the northeast monsoon intensifies, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

On October 22 and 23, the coastal districts and most parts of South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, will witness good rainfall with thunderstorms. Meanwhile, heavy rains will continue to lash the Malnad regions of Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru, as well as Mysuru. Light showers are expected in the Belagavi, Dharwad, and Haveri districts.

The IMD has issued a specific heavy rainfall warning for Dakshina Kannada on October 24. Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu will also receive heavy showers on this day, while other areas will experience moderate rainfall.

The intensity of the rain is expected to gradually decrease by October 25 and 26. Light showers may occur in isolated places across the coastal and southern interior regions, while dry weather will largely prevail in the rest of the state.

Due to the forecast of lightning and thunderstorms, the IMD has advised the public and farmers to take necessary safety precautions and strictly avoid standing under trees during the rains.
