Mumbai, Sep 3: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) junior engineer and a worker attached to the K/West Ward office in Andheri West for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 60,000 bribe from a bakery operator.

The accused have been identified as junior engineer Niravkumar Chunilal Jaisur, 43, and worker Vijay Ramesh Patil, 46.

According to the ACB, Patil initially demanded Rs 70,000 from the 50-year-old complainant on behalf of himself and Jaisur, allegedly to allow the bakery operator to continue his business and avoid action against the establishment.

During verification, Jaisur allegedly negotiated the amount down to ?60,000.

In the subsequent trap operation, Patil was caught accepting Rs 60,000 near the ground-floor lift of the K/West Ward office, the ACB said. Jaisur was subsequently taken into custody from his office on the sixth floor.

The ACB seized two mobile phones from Jaisur. A mobile phone and ?40,820 in cash were recovered from Patil, while another Rs 2.37 lakh was found in his bag.
