Mumbai, Aug 5: The 87th annual general body meeting (AGM) of the prestigious Shree Subrahmanya Seva Sangha in Brihanmumbai was held last Thursday at the Shree Subrahmanya Math in Cheddanagar, Chembur.

Presiding over the meeting, president K Subbanna Rao extended greetings for the Shree Prabhava Nama Samvatsara and presented an overview of the Sangha's activities over the past year.

He said, "The continuous service of the Sangha, which has been working for social service and the welfare of its community for the past eight and a half decades, is highly commendable. Your selfless service, foresight, and commitment to the upliftment of the community, your contributions, and your guidance are always an inspiration to the Sangha. We hope that your dedication to this service will continue in the coming days, elevating the community to even greater heights."

Rao highlighted that supporting the education of the members' children is a primary objective of the Sangha. He reported that for the academic year 2025-26, the Sangha distributed Rs 4,29,000 as scholarships, Rs 40,000 as awards to meritorious students, Rs 6,00,000 as loan scholarships, and Rs 1,45,000 as medical aid. During the meeting, the president distributed cheques totaling Rs 74,000 as prizes to 15 meritorious children of the Sangha's members. As per the annual tradition, 12 senior citizens were honored this year with shawls, fruits, flowers, and citations.

Providing further details about the organization, Rao mentioned that the Sangha, headquartered in Sion-Koliwada, Mumbai, boasts a membership of around 1,100. For the past 86 years, it has been providing financial assistance for the higher education of poor students from economically backward sections, offering financial awards, scholarships to meritorious students, medical aid to impoverished families, and felicitating senior community members. The Sangha also organizes cultural and religious events, and community gatherings. He noted that the Sangha is one of the member organizations of the Akhila Bharata Sthanika Brahmana Mahamandala.

The meeting also saw the election of the executive committee for the year 2026-27, with K Subbanna Rao being re-elected as the president. Sadashiva Rao, Umesh Rao K, Gopalakrishna Rao, A Suresh Rao, and Sudhir Hebbar were elected as office bearers. B Janardhana Rao, P Shivaraya, A Sukumar, Suresh Bhagavat, M Santhosh Rao, Ramachandra Rao, Savitri Rao, Rajani J Rao, and Kshama Rao were elected as executive committee members. P Umesh Rao and M Subhashchandra Rao were appointed as guest members.

The meeting commenced with a prayer shloka by Suchitra Rao, Vrinda Bhagavat, and Ramadevi. Treasurer Gopalakrishna Rao presented the annual accounts. Secretary Umesh Rao Kemmannu welcomed the gathering, read the report of the 86th AGM, and proposed the vote of thanks.
