Nalasopara, Aug 3: A 20-year-old man drowned after allegedly slipping into a lake while fishing with his friends in Nalasopara East on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Sohel Ibrahim Shaikh (20), a resident of Gala Nagar in Nalasopara East.
According to officials, Sohel had gone fishing at Nagela Lake in the Shirdi Sankhyeshwar Nagar area when he reportedly lost his footing and fell into the water. After he failed to resurface, his friends alerted the authorities.

A rescue team from the Achole Fire Station of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation launched a search operation and later recovered his body from the lake.
Meanwhile, local residents alleged that repeated demands for safety measures, including the construction of a protective boundary wall, installation of warning signboards and other safeguards around the lake, had been ignored by the civic authorities.
With rivers, lakes and other water bodies overflowing during the ongoing monsoon, police have prohibited swimming and other recreational activities at such locations and urged people to stay away from water bodies to prevent accidents.
