Man rescued after leap into Yamuna; woman companion disappears

Prayagraj, Jul 16: A man was rescued after jumping into the Yamuna River from the New Yamuna Bridge in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj on Thursday, while the woman accompanying him reportedly left the spot immediately after the incident.

The man was identified as Annu Gupta, police said.

According to eyewitnesses, the couple had allegedly gone to the bridge with the intention of ending their lives. However, moments after Gupta jumped into the river, the woman walked away from the scene.

Police, along with local divers, rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched a rescue operation. Following sustained efforts, they successfully pulled Gupta out of the river.

After completing the necessary formalities, the man was handed over to his family members. Police said he is safe.

An investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident, and efforts are underway to trace the woman who accompanied him.

Officials said all aspects of the case are being examined and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
