Brahmavar, Jul 16: Brahmavar police have arrested a rowdy-sheeter for allegedly abusing and threatening a police constable who had visited his residence as part of routine beat patrol duties.

According to police, on July 13, police constable Kishan, attached to Brahmavar police station, was assigned day beat patrol duty in the 11th Handadi-Matpady area. Acting on the instructions of the police sub-inspector, he visited the residence of rowdy-sheeter Nikhil at around 7.00 pm to verify his presence. As no one was found at the house, the constable contacted Nikhil over the phone, identified himself as the beat police officer, and enquired about his whereabouts.

Police said Nikhil allegedly responded in an abusive manner, questioned why the constable had come to his house, and threatened him, saying, "Stay there, I will come and kill you." Following the incident, the constable returned to the police station.

Later, at around 8.30 pm, while the constable was off duty and resting, Nikhil allegedly made repeated phone calls, abused him using obscene language, questioned why he had visited his residence, and again issued death threats, police said.

Based on the complaint, Brahmavar police registered a case against Nikhil for allegedly obstructing a public servant from discharging his official duty, abusing him, and issuing criminal intimidation.

The accused has been identified as Nikhil, a resident of Beluru Jeddu, Handadi village, Brahmavar taluk. He was arrested on Wednesday and has been produced before the jurisdictional court.

Police further stated that Nikhil is a rowdy-sheeter with two previous criminal cases registered against him at Brahmavar Police Station, including one robbery case and one case related to sexual harassment.
