Beltangady: Serial theft cases; notorious interstate thief arrested

Beltangady, Jul 9: In a major breakthrough, the Beltangady police have arrested a notorious interstate thief who was involved in a series of late-night burglaries across the town on May 19, decamping with cash and valuables.

The arrested individual has been identified as Jayakumar (55), a resident of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Following his interrogation, it was revealed that he had executed serial thefts not only in Beltangady but also in Uppinangady and Surathkal.

 

The operation was initiated on July 8 at around 6 pm when a team led by Beltangady police sub-inspector Sikandar Pasha received credible information about a man moving around suspiciously at the Guruvayanakere junction. The police took him into custody, and during intense questioning, his involvement in multiple theft cases came to light.

During the interrogation, the accused confessed to committing a total of six serial thefts, which included three places in Beltangady, two in Uppinangady, and one in Surathkal. Investigations further revealed that he is a notorious interstate offender with 16 cases registered against him across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

The successful arrest operation was conducted under the guidance of Beltangady sub-division DySP Rohini C K, led by Beltangady circle inspector Ravi B S, sub-inspector Anand M, sub-inspector Sikandar Pasha, and other personnel.
