Man critically injured as tree branch crashes onto pedestrian amid heavy rain in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jul 8: A 50-year-old man sustained serious injuries after a roadside tree branch fell on him in Mumbai's Andheri East on Wednesday morning amid heavy monsoon rains, civic officials said.

The incident occurred at around 10.12 am near D J House on Nagardas Road, close to the Andheri subway, when a tree branch suddenly fell on pedestrian Aadesh Gaikar.

Gaikar was immediately rushed to the civic-run Cooper Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Hospital authorities said his condition is stable and he remains under medical observation.

Following the incident, personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Garden Department, police and BEST reached the spot to remove the fallen branch and restore public safety.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over tree-related accidents in Mumbai during the ongoing monsoon season.

According to officials, three people, including an 11-year-old boy, have lost their lives in separate tree-related incidents across the city over the past few days.

While civic authorities routinely inspect and trim vulnerable trees before and during the monsoon, continuous rainfall and strong winds have increased the risk of branches collapsing unexpectedly.

Officials have advised citizens to remain cautious while travelling during heavy rain, particularly near old trees and waterlogged areas.
