Lucknow, Jul 7: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress amid the ongoing political controversy surrounding the alleged embezzlement of Ram Temple donations, accusing both parties of attempting to exploit issues of faith for political gain.
Speaking at a public event in Pratapgarh, where he inaugurated several development projects, including a new medical college, the Chief Minister said the Ram Temple in Ayodhya stands as a symbol of India's cultural resurgence.

He remarked that while some political forces had wanted to preserve what he described as a symbol of historical subjugation, the site today is home to what he called the world's largest and tallest temple dedicated to Lord Ram.
Adityanath accused the Congress and the Samajwadi Party of practising divisive politics based on caste and religion and alleged that both parties had, in the past, disrespected Sanatan traditions.
Referring to the Congress, the Chief Minister claimed the party had previously questioned the existence of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna and had supported the disputed Babri structure. He alleged that the party was now attempting to project itself as a champion of faith for political reasons.
The Chief Minister further accused the Congress of changing its stand on religious issues, saying its current position was driven by electoral considerations rather than conviction.
Targeting the Samajwadi Party, Adityanath alleged that its government had ordered police firing on devotees during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and therefore had no moral authority to comment on matters related to Lord Ram or the Ayodhya temple.
He also claimed that parties which had earlier criticised or opposed the Ram Janmabhoomi movement were now trying to derive political benefit by invoking religious sentiments.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that people would not be influenced by what he described as misleading political narratives and would continue to uphold their faith and support for the Ram Temple.
