Babar returns as Pakistan Test captain for WI, England series

Islamabad, Jul 5: Former skipper Babar Azam has been reappointed as Pakistan's Test captain as the Pakistan Cricket Board announced squads for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship series against the West Indies and England.

Babar replaces Shan Masood and will lead Pakistan in the two-Test series in the Caribbean beginning Jul 25, followed by a three-Test series in England starting Aug 19.

The selectors have also included four uncapped players in the squads – left-arm spinner Ali Usman, batter Muhammad Awais Zafar, fast bowler Ubaid Shah and wicketkeeper-batter Muhammad Ghazi Ghori – all of whom are in line to make their Test debuts.

Middle-order batter Saud Shakeel has been named in the England squad, subject to proving his fitness before the series.

Pakistan are currently placed ninth in the ICC World Test Championship standings.

The West Indies series will be played from Jul 25-29 at Tarouba and Aug 2-6 at Port of Spain, while the England series is scheduled for Aug 19-23 at Leeds, Aug 27-31 at Lord's, and Sep 9-13 at Birmingham.
