New Delhi, Jun 19: India have drafted leg-spinner Prema Rawat into their squad for the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after off-spinner Shreyanka Patil was ruled out of the tournament with an ankle injury.

Patil, 23, suffered the injury while fielding during India’s match against the Netherlands on Wednesday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Event Technical Committee had approved Rawat’s replacement for the remainder of the competition.

Rawat earned the call-up following a series of impressive performances at the domestic and India A levels. She picked up eight wickets in five matches during India A’s victorious campaign in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament and was also the joint-highest wicket-taker on India A’s tour of Australia last year, claiming seven wickets in three matches.

The young leg-spinner is regarded as one of India’s emerging bowling talents and will now have the opportunity to make an impact on the global stage.

India’s World Cup squad is led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain.

Meanwhile, following Rawat’s elevation to the senior team, the Women’s Selection Committee has made adjustments to the India A squads for the upcoming tour of England. Niki Prasad has been added to the India A T20 squad, while Minnu Mani has been included in the One-Day squad.

India will hope Rawat can strengthen their bowling attack as they continue their campaign in pursuit of the Women’s T20 World Cup title.
