Panaji, Jun 10: The Goa government has announced the phased implementation of AI-based traffic cameras at 26 locations across the state as part of its efforts to strengthen road safety and improve traffic management.

The decision was announced by Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho after chairing a meeting of the State Road Safety Council.

Godinho said the advanced surveillance system will be introduced in stages before full-fledged enforcement begins on July 1. The initiative is aimed at improving monitoring of traffic violations and enhancing compliance with road safety regulations.

Ahead of the rollout, the government will conduct a series of public awareness campaigns to educate motorists about the new AI-powered monitoring system, traffic rules and the importance of responsible driving.

Officials said the intelligent camera network will help detect traffic violations more effectively and support technology-driven enforcement measures. The system is also expected to play a key role in reducing accidents by promoting better adherence to road safety norms.

The government expressed confidence that the combination of public awareness programmes and AI-enabled traffic surveillance will contribute to safer roads and encourage responsible driving habits across Goa.
