New York, Jun 4: FIFA has revised its stadium policy for the 2026 World Cup, banning spectators from bringing reusable water bottles into venues across North America.
According to a report by The New York Times, FIFA's earlier Stadium Code of Conduct had permitted fans to carry empty, transparent and reusable plastic bottles with a capacity of up to one litre into stadiums. However, the governing body has now updated its guidelines and informed ticket holders that reusable water bottles will no longer be allowed.

The revised code, updated on June 2, removed the previous provision and clarified that reusable water bottles are prohibited inside stadiums. FIFA stated that bottles and similar containers could pose a safety risk if thrown.
The move is expected to spark debate among fans, as spectators will no longer be able to refill bottles at water fountains or dispensers within the venues. During last year's Club World Cup, concerns were raised over extreme heat conditions, while bottled water at FIFA venues reportedly cost between USD 4 and USD 6.
Although prices for the 2026 World Cup have not yet been announced, FIFA's long-standing partnership with Coca-Cola means that Dasani bottled water is expected to be sold at tournament venues.
Meanwhile, FIFA has confirmed record participation for the 2026 World Cup, with 1,248 players from 48 nations set to feature in the expanded tournament. The competition will be the largest in World Cup history, featuring more teams, players and matches than any previous edition.
Argentina enter the tournament as defending champions after lifting the World Cup title in Qatar in 2022.
