India dominates IAU 24H Championships with five medals and men’s podium sweep

New Delhi, May 25: Team India scripted history at the IAU 24H Asia and Oceania Championships in Japan by winning a total of five medals, including a remarkable clean sweep in the men’s individual category.

The Indian men’s team delivered a commanding performance, occupying all top positions in the individual standings while also clinching the team gold medal with a combined distance of 815.833 km.

Celebrating the achievement, the Athletics Federation of India hailed the team’s continued dominance in ultra running, noting that India has now emerged as Asia-Oceania champions for the third consecutive edition after previous victories in 2022 and 2024.

The 24-hour endurance event, held from May 23 to 24, tested athletes’ physical and mental stamina as runners pushed themselves continuously through day and night competition.

Leading India’s charge was Amar Singh Devanda, who secured the gold medal after covering an impressive 282.881 km across 226 laps. Geeno Antony finished second with 272.894 km over 218 laps, helping India complete a historic podium sweep in the men’s category.

Japan secured the silver medal in the men’s team event with a total distance of 754.726 km, while Australia claimed bronze with 732.525 km.

India also impressed in the women’s competition, where the women’s team earned the bronze medal with a combined distance of 667.722 km. Tenzin Dolma emerged as the standout performer for India, finishing fourth individually after covering 228.939 km.

Japan’s Miho Nakata dominated the women’s individual race on home soil, winning gold with a massive distance of 261.170 km and leading Japan to the women’s team title. Australia secured the women’s team silver medal.

The championship featured 81 athletes from nine countries, including 39 women and 42 men, making it one of the most competitive editions of the event.
