Udupi, Apr 28: Following the recent rape case involving a foreign woman at a homestay in Kodagu district, the Udupi district police have launched a special enforcement drive to inspect homestays and resorts operating in the region.

Acting on the directions of senior police authorities, including the director general and inspector general of police (DG & IGP) and the additional director general of police (Law and Order), officials carried out inspections across the district. During the operation, a total of 32 illegal homestays were identified.

A detailed report has been submitted to the district tourism department, recommending strict action against these establishments as per the law.

Key directives issued:

• All homestays and resorts must strictly comply with licensing rules and regulations.
• Establishments failing to follow the prescribed norms will face cancellation of their licences.
• In cases where foreign nationals stay at homestays or resorts, owners must mandatorily upload guest details through Form C on the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) online portal. Additionally, this information must be shared with the local police station.
• Operators have been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance to ensure the safety and security of foreign guests.

Authorities emphasized that such measures are crucial to prevent incidents and ensure tourist safety in the district. Further inspections and enforcement actions are expected in the coming days.
