Aamir calls visit to Arijit Singh after retirement decision a ‘lifetime experience’

Mumbai, Apr 24: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has opened up about his recent visit to singer Arijit Singh’s home in Murshidabad following the latter’s announcement of retirement from playback singing, calling it an “amazing, lifetime experience”.

Aamir said he was deeply moved by the visit and had even urged Arijit to reconsider stepping away from singing for Hindi films.

Speaking about the trip, Aamir said he and composer Ram Sampath had decided to visit Arijit’s home and studio in person to record tracks for Ek Din, co-produced by him and starring his son Junaid Khan.

He said they had learnt of Arijit’s retirement decision shortly before the visit and were initially unsure whether the singer would continue with their project.

According to Aamir, Arijit assured him he would honour his commitment.

Describing their four-day stay as “magical”, Aamir praised Arijit not only as a singer but as a storyteller, comparing his expressive style to legendary voices such as Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar.

He also spoke warmly about meeting Arijit’s family and team, calling the singer an extraordinary artist and a passionate human being.

A video of Aamir’s visit had earlier gone viral, showing the actor appealing to Arijit not to quit playback singing, besides sharing lighter moments such as flying kites, playing chess and riding a scooter together.

Aamir said he had tried to persuade Arijit to rethink his decision, though the singer appeared firm about retirement.

Arijit’s retirement announcement earlier this year had sent shockwaves across the film and music industry.

Meanwhile, Aamir is preparing for the release of Ek Din, a romantic drama starring Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan, scheduled for worldwide release on May 1.
