Kajol opens up on breaking no-kissing rule

Mumbai, Apr 24: Bollywood actor Kajol has opened up about her decision to break her long-standing no-kissing policy in her OTT debut series The Trial - Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha.

In a recent conversation with Lilly Singh on her podcast, Kajol said the decision was driven purely by the demands of the character she portrayed. She explained that the scene was not just about a kiss but an essential part of the character’s emotional journey and the overall narrative.

“Honestly, it was the season that I was playing. It had so much to do with the character and who she was. It wasn't simply a kiss; it was about what she thought and what she wanted to happen,” Kajol said, adding that removing the scene would have meant compromising the integrity of the role.

The actor, who shared the scene with co-star Jisshu Sengupta, admitted that she was initially uncomfortable with the idea. However, she described the decision as a professional one.

“I was very uncomfortable with the idea till I was standing on set. I liked it in theory and wasn't sure whether I would go through with it, but I think it was simply a professional call,” she said.

Kajol also reflected on her approach to her career, stating that she has always been unapologetic about her choices as an actor. She noted that she entered the industry at a young age and focused more on her work than overthinking decisions.

In the series, Kajol plays Noyonika Sengupta, a housewife who returns to her legal career following her husband’s scandal. Directed by Suparn Verma, the courtroom drama is an Indian adaptation of The Good Wife. The show also features Alyy Khan and Sheeba Chaddha and is available for streaming on JioHotstar.
