Thundershowers lash Karkala, Hebri; lightning strike sets tree ablaze

Karkala, Mar 24: A heavy spell of rain accompanied by thunder lashed Karkala and Hebri taluks on Monday evening.

Rain with thunder was reported from Karkala town, Ajekar, Shirlaalu, Kervashe, Mala, Nooral Betta and Bajagoli areas. Showers were also reported from Andaru, Mudradi, Kabbinale and surrounding regions in Hebri taluk.

The weather had remained overcast since Monday afternoon, with rain beginning towards the evening. While rainfall in and around Karkala lasted only for a short duration, rural areas experienced showers for more than half an hour.

In a concerning incident, lightning struck a tree in Mala village, which caught fire and continued to burn, creating a brief atmosphere of panic in the area.
