Kinwat, Mar 23: In a heartening example of humanity and family responsibility at a time when relationships are often strained, a young man from Vazra (Budruk) village in Kinwat taluk has set a unique social example by marrying his deceased brother’s wife to secure the future of his children.

A resident of Vazra (Budruk), Ashtapal Patil passed away in February 2026 after a prolonged illness, leaving behind his wife Vijayalakshmi, an eight-year-old daughter, and a six-year-old visually impaired son. His death left the family in distress, raising serious concerns about the children’s upbringing, education, and livelihood.

Moved by the family’s condition, his younger brother Prafulla Patil, who is unmarried, took a bold and compassionate decision. Instead of merely offering support, he married his sister-in-law Vijayalakshmi and took full responsibility for raising his nephew and niece.

Prafulla, who works as an autorickshaw driver, comes from a modest financial background. Despite his limited means, he chose to prioritise his brother’s children over his own personal life.

His decision has been widely appreciated by villagers and people from nearby areas, who described the move as courageous and exemplary during difficult circumstances.

Speaking about his decision, Prafulla said his primary intention was to ensure that the children do not become orphaned and that his sister-in-law can live with dignity. He added that this was not just a responsibility but a duty towards his late brother.

Locals have praised his sacrifice, noting that he placed humanity and family values above personal comfort.
