Mumbai, Mar 22: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the alleged rape case involving Nashik-based astrologer Ashok Kharat is being closely monitored at the highest level, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) already constituted.
Addressing the media, Fadnavis said the SIT, along with the Nashik Police Commissioner, is handling the probe, while the Director General of Police has also been instructed to oversee the investigation.
He emphasised that the case is extremely serious and efforts are being made to encourage more victims to come forward. “Some women have started responding. No one will be spared in this matter,” he said.

Fadnavis cautioned against attempts to politicise the issue, stating that any evidence should be submitted to the police for action rather than being used for political statements.
He also dismissed allegations of selective action, asserting that the focus remains on ensuring justice. “This concerns the dignity of women. Misusing influence to exploit women is one of the worst crimes. The accused will have to face punishment,” he said.
The case pertains to the arrest of Kharat, who is accused of sexually assaulting a 35-year-old woman over several years under the pretext of spiritual guidance. Police said the alleged abuse took place between 2022 and December 2025.
A Nashik court has remanded the accused to police custody till March 24. Authorities are continuing investigations and have urged others with information to come forward.
