Kundapur: Youth drowns while collecting shellfish near Arate bridge

Kundapur, Mar 19: A 39-year-old man drowned after accidentally falling into the river while collecting shellfish (maruvai) near Arate bridge on Tuesday, March 17.

The deceased has been identified as Chandra, a resident of Hangalur.

Chandra had gone to the river near Arate bridge along with his relative, Ajit, at around 10 am on Tuesday to collect shellfish. After some time, Ajit noticed that Chandra was missing and launched a search for him in the surrounding areas, but to no avail.

The search continued on Wednesday morning, and at approximately 9:45 am, Chandra’s body was found floating in the river near the bridge.

A case has been registered at the Kundapur police station.
