ICYM Mangalore diocese organizes residential MC training workshop with Mandd Sobhann

Mangaluru, Mar 16: The Central Council of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Mangalore Diocese in collaboration with Mandd Sobhann, organized a two-day Residential Master of Ceremonies Training Workshop on March 14 and 15 at Kalangann. The workshop aimed to equip youth with essential skills in event anchoring, public speaking, stage presentation, and personality development.

The workshop was inaugurated on March 14 in a unique and symbolic manner. Director of ICYM Mangalore Diocese and Karnataka Regional Youth Commission secretary, Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, officially inaugurated the program by ceremonially opening the microphone. A decorative pot placed on the stage contained pearls, which were later scattered, symbolizing the many opportunities and talents that can be discovered and shared through effective anchoring.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, director of ICYM Mangalore Diocese and Karnataka Regional Youth Commission secretary, Louis Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann, trainers Mahesh Nayak and Arun Raj Rodrigues, camp coordinator Winston Joel Sequeira, ICYM Mangalore Diocese president, Vijoy Ashwin Cardoza and secretary Maria D’Silva, who were present on the dais.

Addressing the participants, Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza emphasized that merely holding a microphone and standing on stage does not make one an MC. He explained that an anchor must act as a bridge between the program and the audience, ensuring that the event flows smoothly and remains engaging. He encouraged the participants to make the best use of the workshop and learn how to confidently handle challenges while hosting programs. Adding on He emphasized that the unfolding of Microphone during inaugural ceremony, means we need to explore the hidden talents and use it to the fullest, the talent of anchoring is to be utilised and may this training program be a platform for the same.

Speaking on the occasion, Louis Pinto appreciated the enthusiasm of the youth who had gathered for the training. He highlighted the importance of nurturing talents and using them positively for the benefit of society. He also assured that Mandd Sobhann will continue to support initiatives that promote cultural and personal development among young people.

During the inaugural session, Louis Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann was felicitated for his unwavering support. Also the resource persons Mahesh Nayak and Arun Raj Rodrigues were honoured in recognition of their contribution to the workshop.

The welcome address was delivered by ICYM Mangalore Diocese president Vijoy Ashwin Cardoza, while secretary Maria D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. Camp coordinator Winston Joel Sequeira introduced the resource persons, and the program was compered by Ashintha Monteiro

The workshop featured interactive sessions on event management, anchoring techniques, public speaking, stage presentation, and personality development, conducted by trainer Mahesh Nayak. Participants also received valuable insights into the richness of Konkani culture.

Trainer Arun Raj Rodrigues conducted a detailed session on traditional Mangalorean wedding customs Konkani culture and traditions, and also shared insights on television anchoring and professional MC training.

As part of the practical training sessions, participants were divided into groups and assigned different event themes such as corporate event MC, ICYM Jubilee MC, and MC for public functions Each group prepared a detailed script and performed their assigned event. The performances were carefully evaluated, and detailed feedback on script writing, speech delivery, and pronunciation was provided by Arun Raj Rodrigues and Mandd Sobhann member Rony Crasta.

During the concluding session, participants shared their feedback, stating that the training significantly enhanced their confidence, language pronunciation, and stage presentation skills. Dr Steeven D'Souza and Rony Crasta distributed the certificates to all participants at the end of the program. Winston Sequeira, the program coordinator, expressed his gratitude to everyone for their presence and valuable contribution to the success of the workshop.

A total of 58 youth from the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod actively participated in the two-day workshop, gaining valuable knowledge and practical experience in the art of event anchoring.

The program served as a meaningful platform to nurture confident young MCs who can effectively lead programs and contribute positively to community events in the future.
