From self-study to UPSC AIR 71: Shivani Mohan’s inspiring IAS journey

Meerut, Mar 6: Shivani Mohan from Meerut has achieved All India Rank 71 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, fulfilling her dream of becoming an IAS officer.

In the UPSC examination, students from Meerut once again delivered an impressive performance. Shivani Mohan secured the 71st rank in her third attempt. Earlier, in her second attempt, she had been selected for the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS).

A resident of Golden Avenue Phase-2, Shivani has carved a success story that has inspired many young girls to dream big. Her father, Sushil Kumar, is a general manager at SBI, Delhi, and her mother, Dr Seema Gupta, is a BEd professor at RG College. Her brother, Shantanu, serves as a Major in the Indian Army.

Shivani is currently undergoing training in IDAS at Shimla, but she continued her preparation for the IAS examination alongside. In her first attempt, she was selected in the Indian Economic Service (IES) through UPSC and was posted as assistant director at North Block. She was also part of the Indian delegation with the finance minister during the G-20 summit.

In her second attempt, she secured selection in IDAS. However, her ultimate goal was to become an IAS officer. In her third attempt, she achieved her dream by securing the 71st rank.

There is no prior history of civil servants in her family, but Shivani set a new benchmark with her success. She completed her class 10 from Sophia Girls School, Meerut, and class 12 from DPS RK Puram, Delhi. She pursued her graduation in Economics (Honours) from Miranda House, Delhi University, and completed her postgraduation from Delhi School of Economics. She was a topper at both Miranda House and Delhi School of Economics.

From school through college, Shivani earned several scholarships. Her parents, brother, and her entire college community have expressed happiness over her achievement. According to her father Sushil Kumar, Shivani achieved this success through self-study and has brought pride to the family.
