Davanagere, Mar 5: The state government has ordered the recovery of Rs 79.75 crore credited to the bank accounts of deceased beneficiaries under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, following the detection of large-scale irregularities.
H M Revanna, chairman of the State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, directed officials to verify death certificates and initiate steps to withdraw the funds transferred to ineligible accounts.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on the five guarantee schemes at Gundimahadevappa Kalyana Mantapa here on Wednesday.

“After the implementation of the guarantee schemes in the state, 1,44,056 beneficiaries have died. Of these, Gruha Lakshmi payments have been credited to the bank accounts of 68,776 beneficiaries. Officials must remain vigilant to ensure that such lapses do not recur,” he said.
Revanna also urged Congress workers to remain alert and ensure that scheme benefits are not deposited into the accounts of the deceased.
“There was an issue wherein women paying Goods and Services Tax (GST) were not receiving Gruha Lakshmi payments. This problem has now been rectified,” he added.
