Mangaluru: Rs 10 crore released by state govt for rain damage repairs - Ivan D'Souza

Mangaluru, Mar 4: The state government has released Rs 10 crore to undertake restoration works in various parts of the city that were affected by rain-related damages, informed member of legislative council (MLC) Ivan D'Souza.

Addressing the media after visiting the affected sites along with engineers and local leaders, Ivan D'Souza stated that 18 different projects have been sanctioned. Tenders have already been floated for these works, and he has directed officials to ensure all projects are completed before the onset of the next monsoon.

Details of sanctioned projects

The funds have been allocated for several critical infrastructure repairs across various wards:

  • Bejai ward (31): Rs 30 lac sanctioned for stormwater drain construction near Anegundi Ashraya Ashram and Nandagokula Apartment.

  • Kodialbail ward: Rs 30 lac for retaining walls near the residence of Stelladore Vegas and Sharavathi Apartment in Ballalbagh.

  • Kadri North (ward 32): Rs 1.90 crore earmarked for the construction of a retaining wall near the circuit house.

  • Court ward (40): Rs 30 lac for stormwater drain work opposite City Hospital.

  • Bendoorwell (ward 38): Rs 30 lac released for the development of a retaining wall.

Desilting works

In addition to the restoration projects, the state government has sanctioned Rs 3.50 crore for desilting works in the Mangaluru South assembly constituency. Ivan D'Souza noted that silt accumulation in drains is obstructing the smooth flow of water and instructed officials to commence desilting immediately.

Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, former corporators Naveen D'Souza, Lancelot Pinto, D K Ashok, Prakash Salian, Vinayraj, and Prem Ballalbagh were present. Also in attendance were MCC engineers Nityananda and Manjunath, Chinmayi, Saida, ward congress presidents Varun Devadiga and Oswald Bendoorwell, and congress leaders Aliston D'Cunha, Jaya Poojary, Jagadish Kulal, Vasant Bejai, Gautam Kapikad, Sudhir Bejai, Santosh Bejai, and Clyde D'Souza.
