Mangaluru, Mar 3: South Railway has granted approval to develop the Pandeshwar level crossing road, where the public has been facing severe traffic congestion and inconvenience for several years, into a four-lane road, informed MP Brijesh Chowta.
He said that providing a permanent solution to the traffic congestion at the Pandeshwar level crossing has been a long-pending demand of the local residents. In this regard, he had issued strict instructions to railway officials during a meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office in the presence of MLA Vedavyas Kamath and deputy commissioner Darshan H V.

He had directed that there is an urgent need to find a permanent solution at this level crossing and instructed that Mangaluru City Corporation and railway authorities should coordinate and prepare a comprehensive report outlining possible solutions. He had also directed the civic officials to upload the report on the official portal of the railway department.
Further, he had held discussions with the general manager of South Railway and the divisional railway manager of the Palakkad division. Following these discussions, the railway department has now agreed to develop the Pandeshwar level crossing road, which falls under South Railway jurisdiction, into a four-lane road.
An estimate is currently being prepared for the widening of the level crossing road. The tender process is expected to be completed by the end of this month. While the stretch under the Mangaluru City Corporation limits is already a four-lane road, the portion under railway jurisdiction is presently a two-lane road. Once widened, the entire level crossing road will become four-lane, facilitating smoother vehicular movement.
In addition, a ‘double boom’ automatic gate system will be installed to enhance safety. This will not only ensure smooth traffic flow but also help resolve the issue of traffic congestion on this road, the MP stated in a release.
