Udupi, Mar 1: Sub-inspector Naseer Hussain, the station house officer of the Kundapur Rural police station, passed away on Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack during a department fitness event. He was 59.
The police department had organised a 5 km marathon at the Ajjarkadu Ground as part of the “Namma Police Namma Hemme – Fitness Drive-Free Karnataka” campaign, aimed at promoting physical fitness and cyber awareness among the force. Hundreds of police personnel, including SI Naseer Hussain, were participating in the run.
While taking part in the marathon, Naseer Hussain suddenly collapsed on the track. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
Originally a resident of Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district, Naseer Hussain had an illustrious career in the coastal belt. He had previously served as the station house officer in several stations under the Kundapur police sub-division, including Amasebailu, Kundapur, Byndoor, Kollur, and Shankaranarayana. He was currently posted at the Rural (Kandluru) police station.
A veteran who joined the police service after serving in the Indian Army, Naseer Hussain was widely regarded as a people-friendly officer. He had earned significant public appreciation for his dedication and service at every station he was posted to.
