Udupi, Feb 20: The long-neglected stretch near Silas School on the Kalsanka–Ambagilu road has finally been fully concretised, bringing relief to hundreds of daily commuters. The action follows a series of reports published by Daijiworld.com highlighting the deteriorating condition of the road and the serious safety hazards it posed.

The issue began during the 2025 monsoon when drainage water from a manhole started overflowing onto the road, creating a slippery and unhygienic stretch. The continuous flow of wastewater led to the complete deterioration of the tar surface and the formation of deep potholes. Following initial media reports, authorities carried out temporary measures by placing barricades around the damaged portion and applying a wet mix to fill the potholes. However, these makeshift repairs failed to resolve the issue and instead increased the risk for motorists due to the uneven surface.

In October 2025, the situation worsened when the damaged manhole near Silas School became a major safety concern. Vehicles were forced to make sudden turns to avoid the raised and broken manhole cover, often driving dangerously close to the edge of the road. During monsoon showers, rainwater accumulated in the potholes, making them nearly invisible. Several vehicles reportedly fell into the deep craters, and two-wheeler riders were the worst affected by the eroded tar and scattered gravel.

In December 2025, Daijiworld.com published another detailed report after observing that larger potholes had re-emerged. Considering the heavy vehicular movement on the Kalsanka–Ambagilu stretch—including school vans, private vehicles, and pedestrians—the situation had become critical. The protruding manhole and loose gravel had created a highly accident-prone zone.

Following the latest report, the authorities finally undertook comprehensive repair work. Instead of resorting to patchwork, they reconstructed the entire damaged manhole structure and fully concretised the affected stretch of the road, ensuring a long-term solution.

The newly concretised road is expected to provide durable and safer passage for motorists, students, and residents. The permanent repair has eliminated previous hazards, including water stagnation and deep potholes.
