Mangaluru, Feb 16: Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), through the Yenepoya Centre for Allied and Healthcare Education (Yen-CAHE), a unit of the faculty of Allied and Healthcare Professions, organized a two-day train the trainer programme for the faculty of the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO) on February 14-15. This national-level programme was conducted for the CAHO trainers.
The Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO) is a not-for-profit body dedicated to advancing quality initiatives in Indian healthcare through events, courses, workshops, and training programmes. It focuses on enhancing healthcare quality and patient safety via education, certification, and accreditation efforts, regularly building capacity among healthcare professionals nationwide. This ‘Train the Trainer’ programme marks a key CAHO effort to build a robust cadre of faculty to lead quality and safety training for healthcare professionals.












The programme was inaugurated by the hon’ble vice chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Dr K S Gangadhara Somayaji, alongside dignitaries including Dr Aswini Dutt R, registrar; Dr Vijay Agarwal, CAHO president; Dr Lallu Joseph, CAHO secretary general; Dr Sunita Saldanha, dean of the faculty of Allied & Healthcare Professions and Yen-CAHE chairperson; and Dr Rashmi Jain, professor of Ophthalmology and MEU Coordinator.
In his inaugural address, the vice chancellor emphasised the importance of continuous professional development and structured faculty training to improve the Impact of training. The CAHO leadership highlighted the need for developing a strong network of trained faculty who can drive excellence in healthcare quality and patient safety across healthcare organisations.
A key highlight of the programme was the participation of a remarkable group of healthcare professionals from both India and abroad. This included hospital administrators, CEOs, medical superintendents, clinicians, quality heads, accreditation experts, infection control specialists, and educators who specialize in quality and patient safety training. This diverse participation highlights CAHO's strong commitment to building professional capacity.
The academic sessions focused on contemporary approaches to training, including effective presentation design, learner engagement strategies, facilitation skills, competency-based teaching methods, microteaching practices, assessment techniques, and emerging technologies such as AI-enabled teaching tools. Through engaging and interactive activities, participants learned practical strategies to enhance the impact of their training delivery.
The programme featured expert-led sessions conducted by distinguished speakers in medical education and healthcare training. The eminent resource persons included Dr Animesh Jain, professor of community medicine at KMC, Mangaluru; Dr Malini Hebbar, principal of Swastika National Business School, Mangaluru; Dr Aswini Dutt R, registrar at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University); Dr Rashmi Jain, MEU coordinator at Yenepoya Medical College; and Dr Meera Jacob, professor and head of anatomy at Yenepoya Medical College. The programme also included collaborative discussions and experiential learning activities designed to foster innovation in teaching practices.
