Pune, Feb 3: Another case of real estate fraud has surfaced in the city, with Wanowrie police registering a case of cheating involving nearly Rs 1 cr against a construction firm and its directors.

The accused have been identified as Rajiv Hiralal Surana (40) and Rahul Hiralal Surana (49), both residents of Rasta Peth, and directors of Surana Landmarks LLP. The case was registered following a complaint filed by a 49-year-old man at Wanowrie police station.

According to the police, the complainant had paid a substantial amount to purchase a shop in a commercial complex located in the Wanowrie area. However, the builder allegedly sold the same shop to another buyer as well, resulting in financial losses of around Rs 1 crore to the complainant.

Following the receipt of the complaint, Wanowrie police booked the accused under charges of cheating. Investigators are scrutinising transaction-related documents, agreements and financial records to verify the allegations and to ascertain whether more buyers have been similarly defrauded.

Further investigation in the case is being carried out by Crime Branch Inspector Jadhav.
