Byndoor, Feb 2: The renowned Sri Mookambika Temple at Kollur in Udupi district witnessed a massive surge of devotees in January, with the temple’s hundi registering a record collection of Rs 1.39 crore during the month.

In addition to cash offerings, devotees donated 350 grams of gold and 1,670 grams of silver. In comparison, the hundi collection in December 2025 stood at Rs 1.64 crore, along with 695 grams of gold and 2,985 grams of silver.

Sources said that the total collection of Rs 3.03 crore over the past two months has emerged as a significant record for the temple. “There has been a sharp rise in the number of devotees visiting the temple during holidays and festive occasions over the last two months,” sources said.

According to temple officials, a minimum of 15,000 devotees have been visiting the shrine daily for the past three months, reflecting sustained footfall at the hill temple.

The hundi collections are usually counted on any one day between the 27th, 28th or 29th of every month. Traditionally, collections are higher during November and December.

“The monthly collection earlier used to be around Rs 75 lac. However, for the past six months, it has consistently crossed Rs 1 crore,” the president of the temple management committee said.
