Mangaluru, Jan 11: Tragedy struck Pandeshwar police station as ASI Harishchandra Berike (57) succumbed to severe burn injuries on Sunday, January 11, two weeks after a fire accident at his home.
The incident occurred on December 28 at his residence in Vyasanagar, near KPIT, Mangaluru, when Harishchandra was handling a task involving flames. He sustained intense burn injuries and was immediately admitted to hospital, where he underwent treatment for nearly two weeks. Despite medical intervention, he could not be saved.

Speaking of the incident, a senior police officer said, “ASI Berike was a dedicated officer with 33 years of service. His loss is deeply felt by the force and the community he served.”
Harishchandra, originally from Kavugoli in Kasaragod district, had earlier lived in Baikampadi before moving to Vyasanagar a few years ago. He joined the police force in November 1993 and had spent over three decades serving the department with distinction.
He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter, who now mourn the sudden and tragic loss.
