New Delhi , Jan 11: With the number of diabetes cases steadily rising across the country, doctors have cautioned sugar patients against neglecting routine care, stressing that timely monitoring and lifestyle discipline can help prevent serious long-term complications.
Medical experts said many patients tend to ignore blood sugar control once symptoms subside, which often leads to damage to vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, eyes and nerves. “Diabetes is a silent condition. Even if a patient feels normal, uncontrolled sugar levels can cause irreversible harm,” a senior physician said.

Doctors advised sugar patients to strictly follow prescribed medication, maintain a balanced diet, and engage in regular physical activity. Reducing intake of refined carbohydrates, sugary foods and processed items, while increasing consumption of fibre-rich vegetables and whole grains, was highlighted as crucial.
Regular health check-ups, including HbA1c tests, eye examinations and kidney function tests, were also recommended. “Early detection of complications makes treatment easier and improves quality of life,” experts noted.
They further stressed the importance of stress management and adequate sleep, pointing out that mental stress and irregular sleep patterns can significantly affect blood sugar levels.
Health officials urged families to support diabetic members by encouraging healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle at home. Awareness, they said, is key to ensuring that sugar patients lead long, healthy and productive lives without preventable complications.
