Mangaluru, Jan 6: A fisherman from Chhattisgarh died after accidentally falling into a river while securing a fishing boat at Mangaluru Bunder late on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Prahlad Chauhan (33), a native of Barkhas Pali village in Jaspur district of Chhattisgarh. He had come to Mangaluru about a year ago and had been engaged in the fishing profession since then.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 11 pm at the Uppudhakka area of Mangaluru Bunder.

Prahlad was tying the rope of the fishing boat Hassan Al Bahar, which was anchored at the jetty, when he allegedly lost balance and fell into the river.
Fellow fishermen on board immediately attempted a rescue and managed to pull him out of the water. However, he had already succumbed by the time he was brought out.
The body was later subjected to a post-mortem examination at Wenlock Hospital and subsequently sent to his native place by air.
A case has been registered at the Pandeshwar police station, and further investigation is underway.
