Mangaluru, Dec 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party has expelled its Puttur leader Jagannivas Rao following a cheating case involving his son, Krishna J Rao, who is accused of deceiving a young woman with a false promise of marriage.
Confirming the action, district BJP president Satish Kumpala said Jagannivas Rao was removed from the party after failing to honour assurances given earlier. He said that soon after the case came to light, a notice was issued to Jagannivas Rao and he was kept away from party activities.

According to the party, Jagannivas Rao had stated that if the DNA test established Krishna J Rao as the biological father, he would ensure that his son married the affected woman. He had also given a similar assurance to Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai. However, as these assurances were not fulfilled, the party decided to expel him.
The district BJP leadership stated that efforts would continue to ensure justice for the woman until the matter reaches a lawful conclusion.
