Mangaluru, Dec 27: The ninth edition of the much-anticipated Mangaluru Kambala was inaugurated with grandeur and traditional fervour at Bangra Kulur Gold Finch City, Bangra Kulur, on Saturday, December 27. The iconic rural sport festival, deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Tulunadu, was formally inaugurated by MP Capt Brijesh Chowta in the presence of a large gathering of kambala enthusiasts, cultural patrons, and dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Capt Brijesh Chowta said Mangaluru Kambala is not merely a sporting event but a vibrant celebration of Tulunadu’s culture, traditions, and heritage. Stressing the importance of preserving indigenous folk sports, he noted that kambala symbolises the deep bond between the land, its people, and their age-old customs.

Referring to the theme of this year’s event, ‘Nava Vidha – Nava Varshada Mangaluru Kambala’, Capt Chowta said the 2025 edition holds special significance. He observed that many young achiever entrepreneurs, driven by love for their native land, have returned to Tulunadu and established successful ventures, contributing to regional development.
Several dignitaries from social, cultural, and business fields were present on the dais, adding dignity to the occasion. Though some chose to maintain a low profile, their presence and support strengthened the event.
The event is being held under the honorary presidency of Dr K Prakash Shetty, chairman of the MRG Group, who has been a consistent supporter of Mangaluru Kambala for the past eight years. His encouragement has played a key role in sustaining and enhancing the stature of the event.
A grand stage programme featuring cultural performances and felicitation ceremonies was scheduled to be held on Saturday evening, December 27. The prize distribution ceremony will take place on Sunday morning, December 28.
With a blend of tradition, cultural pride, and contemporary vision, the ninth edition of Mangaluru Kambala once again stands as a strong symbol of Tulunadu’s living heritage, evoking pride and enthusiasm among the people.
