Mangaluru, Aug 22: Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R), Bantwal deanery celebrated Konkani Manyatha Divas 2026 on Sunday, August 23 at Modankap School Hall.
The programme began with a welcome address by Alphonse Fernandes, president of Catholic Sabha Bantwal deanery.
Babitha D’Souza, Omzoor, introduced the main speaker, James Lewis, a Konkani writer.
Addressing the gathering, James Lewis spoke about the importance of preserving and promoting the Konkani language. He encouraged the gathering to value Konkani, use it regularly and pass the language on to future generations.
As part of the programme, a tribute was paid to the late Henry D’Souza, Konkani singer, remembering his contribution to Konkani.





James Lewis was felicitated on the occasion in recognition of his valuable contribution to Konkani literature and his efforts towards promoting the Konkani language.
Fr Victor D’Souza, spiritual director of Catholic Sabha Bantwal deanery, addressed the gathering and shared his message.
Present on the dais were president Alphonse Fernandes, spiritual director Fr Victor D’Souza, joint secretary Sharmila D’Souza, treasurer Issac Vas and immediate past president John Lasrado.
Stany Lobo, former president of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R), was also present.
All the committee members of Catholic Sabha Bantwal deanery were present on the occasion.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by joint secretary Sharmila D’Souza, Kuppepadav.
The celebration highlighted the importance of preserving, promoting and passing on the Konkani language and culture to future generations.
