Puttur, Dec 18: Authorities in Puttur have removed an unauthorised triangular structure, or katté, that had stood on a public road near Bhaktakodi Junction in Survey Village, Puttur Taluk since 2017.
The original construction was carried out in September 2017 by government employees of the Puttur Munduru Grama Panchayat, which had sparked disputes among local residents at the time. Panchayat and police officials visited the site in 2017, informed the public, and instructed that the structure be removed.
Despite these instructions, the structure remained in place. Recently, certain individuals erected a wooden pole on the same unauthorised structure and affixed a religious flag.

Following complaints from local residents on December 16, 2025, authorities visited the site and found that the original 2017 structure had not only persisted but had been modified with the addition of a pole and flag. Officials warned that such actions could “potentially disrupt local peace and public order in the coming days.”
As a result, the unauthorised structure was dismantled on December 17, 2025.
The incident has been registered as a case at Puttur Rural police station (Case No. 147/2025) under Section 270 of the BNS 2023 and Section 3 of the Karnataka Open Place Disfigurement Act, 1951 & 1981. Authorities are conducting an investigation into violations of public safety and law and order.
Officials added that no additional activity had taken place on the structure since 2017, but recent reports indicate that the latest modifications may have been politically motivated. “These allegations will also be thoroughly investigated,” police said, emphasising the department’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring compliance with the law.
