Mangaluru, Dec 18: A visit to the Bejai Museum proved highly rewarding for 182 class 5 students and accompanying staff of Lourdes Central School. Curators welcomed the group with an engaging overview of the Srimanthi Bai Memorial Government Museum’s collection, after which students toured galleries featuring ancient pottery, intricately carved sculptures, vibrant paintings and a remarkable array of coins spanning the early centuries to the 16th century.
Hands-on activity stations allowed the children to examine replica artefacts and learn about Mangaluru’s maritime trade links, yielding key learning outcomes: an appreciation of the city’s role as a cultural crossroads between South India and the Arabian Peninsula, insight into artistic techniques and religious symbolism, and familiarity with numismatic evidence of the region’s economic history.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with students noting that the excursion brought textbook lessons to life and sparked curiosity about local heritage. The visit also fostered teamwork as pupils discussed their findings together.
The school management is commended for supporting this valuable experiential learning opportunity, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to education beyond the classroom.
