Mangaluru, Dec 17: Early Learning Centre (ELC) will host "Montessori Open Day" on December 20, inviting parents, educators and the wider community to gain a deeper understanding of Montessori pedagogy, from early childhood through the elementary years. The Open Day is designed as an opportunity for the public to explore what Montessori-based learning truly is.
The "Open Day" will feature a montessori exhibit at the kindergarten level, illustrating the child’s learning journey over a three-year cycle. The exhibit will highlight learning across key areas such as practical life, including care of self and the development of independence along with arithmetic, language, movement and the sciences of Biology, Botany and Zoology. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view authentic montessori materials and children’s work, offering insight into how learning unfolds through hands-on, experiential engagement.

Alongside this, the elementary montessori environments at ELC will host a special exhibit on Montessori in India, with a strong focus on elementary montessori. During her seven years in India, Dr Maria Montessori developed and documented the elementary curriculum, which today forms the framework guiding Montessori elementary environments across the world. This exhibit will shed light on that historical context while also showcasing elementary Montessori materials and student work that reflect how children learn during this developmental stage.
The open day will also include interactive sessions led by trained montessori teachers, who will share perspectives on how the elementary environment functions, what independence looks and feels like for children, and what the first three years in a Montessori elementary environment offer in terms of intellectual curiosity, social growth, and responsibility.
A key highlight of the day will be special talks by Latha Rao, director of Training, IMTC Koramangala, and Jayashree Guruprasad, director of Training, IMTC Mangaluru. These sessions will explore the planes of development, explaining how learning unfolds for children between the ages of 2 to 6 and 6 to 12, their developmental needs, and the role of freedom, independence, and purposeful work in Montessori environments.
The open day will also feature an exhibit of Montessori books and resources, making it a meaningful learning opportunity for parents and educators alike.
