Mumbai, Dec 6: Thousands of followers of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar thronged Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, Mumbai, on Saturday to pay tributes on his death anniversary, observed as Mahaparinirvan Din. The gathering saw people from across Maharashtra commemorating the life and legacy of the architect of the Indian Constitution.

Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray were among the dignitaries who paid homage to the social reformer at the memorial in Shivaji Park. Governor Devvrat highlighted Ambedkar’s pivotal role in giving India a Constitution that guarantees equal rights to all citizens.

Every year, thousands of people converge at Chaityabhoomi on December 6 to honour Ambedkar, who passed away on this day in 1956. To manage the massive influx of devotees, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) set up temporary sheds, mobile toilets, drinking water facilities, and medical stalls at the venue.

In a message on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Ambedkar’s visionary leadership, saying:

"Remembering Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism continue to guide our national journey. He inspired generations to uphold human dignity and strengthen democratic values. May his ideals keep lighting our path as we work towards building a Viksit Bharat."

The solemn event at Chaityabhoomi reflected the enduring respect and admiration for Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions to social justice, equality, and the democratic fabric of India.
