Mumbai, Nov 17: Koumudi, a Kannada film written and directed by Yashoda Prakash Kottukattira, was screened in the Kannada category at the prestigious Jagran Film Festival held in Mumbai from November 13 to 16 by the Dainik Jagran media group.
Actor Akshatha Pandavapura, who played the lead role of Chittavva, earned high praise from the jury and received the Special Jury Award for ‘Best Actress’.





The film was screened on Saturday afternoon at Fun Republic Mall, Andheri West. Renowned actor Yashpal Sharma attended as chief guest and honoured Yashoda Prakash Kottukattira with the award plaque.
Koumudi, based on true incidents, highlights superstitious and harmful practices that unfortunately continue to exist even today. The story revolves around the age-old custom where adolescent girls and new mothers with infants are forced to stay away from the village on the pretext of ritual impurity. Yashoda Prakash Kottukattira has directed the film with deep sensitivity, and every member of the cast has contributed significantly through sincere performances.
The film, directed by Kandilu and produced by Prakash Karyappa Kottukattira under the banner of Swastik Entertainment, received wide appreciation at the festival. Several dignitaries including Prakash Kottukattira, TR Madhusoodan, president of the Mumbai Art Centre, and journalist Gopal Trasi attended the event. Films in various Indian languages as well as international entries were screened. Hindi actor Vineet Kumar Singh received the Special Actor Award.
